Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s circulated around your home. This liquid is found within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most typical refrigerants used for a very long time – the R-22 (Freon) is now being replaced because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. Production of R-22 will cease by 2020. Introducing R-410A R-410A is EPA-recognized, chlorine-free and ozone-friendly. This means it will cool your home without harming the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system function efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for reliability, quiet operation and better dehumidification, so you’ll stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Ocean Air Conditioning in Orange County, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If your system was made before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is hard to find. Some manufacturers sell alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
